Biodegradable

bio material

consciously chosen

In order to create the greatest possible transparency, we want to be as open as possible about our production processes. This includes, above all, our materials, which we select carefully and consciously. At the heart of Change are (above all) our iPhone cases. We have made it our mission to produce high-quality cases in order to achieve maximum service life. We started with cases made from 100% organic material, but these cases have not proven to be durable. This does not meet our quality or sustainability standards. We have therefore changed the composition of our cases. They still consist largely of organic material, but we have added 18% recycled TPU, i.e. thermoplastic polyurethane. This allows us to increase durability and reduce the number of new cases required. Due to the special composition of the material, our products are biodegradable and certified according to EU standard EN 13432 for compostability. Under special conditions in terms of temperature, humidity and the presence of microorganisms, the material decomposes to more than 90% water, carbon dioxide and biomass. However, our cases can only be fully composted in industrial composting plants.

raw material

The organic material of our iPhone cases consists mainly of PLA, which is the abbreviation for polylactic acid. The special thing about PLA is that its properties are very similar to those of a petroleum-based polymer, but we do not use any petroleum (a fossil and therefore finite raw material) for its production, instead we only need natural and renewable raw materials such as corn and plant starch.

manufacturing process

The starch is extracted from these renewable raw materials and subsequently converted into dextrose by various enzymes. In principle, dextrose is nothing other than glucose. In the further course of processing, lactic acid and long-linked chains of molecules are formed. In addition, our organic material consists of wheat and straw residues from agriculture. This allows us to give a new life to products that would otherwise no longer be used. (Upcycling).

from old to new

Should your Change Case ever become obsolete and "retire", you are welcome to send it back to us. As part of our sustainability strategy, we have developed a recycling system that makes the production of our cases even more sustainable, in addition to the best possible use of resources. If you send us your old case, we can shred it and use it to make a new case. And the best thing about it? We'll give you a 30% discount code and you can choose a new case that will hopefully last just as long as your old one. If you are interested in our value cycle and would like to send your case back to us, you can find the address and all other information here.
